Charles Phillip Simpson

Charles Phillip “Herky” Simpson, age 80 of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at home following a short illness. Herky was born and raised in Knoxville, TN. After attending East High School he served in the Navy. He was a graduate of Cumberland College. He received his Masters of Education at the University of Tennessee. He “worked” for the Knox County School System for over 30 years. He was an avid golfer and holds the course record at Whittle Springs Golf Course. He loved his family (especially his grandchildren), his dogs, the Sunshine Boys, and his golfing buddies. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Olivia and Preston “PL” Simpson; brothers, Joseph and James “Doc” Simpson; and sister Margaret Price. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Sandra Simpson; daughter Jill Kaiser and husband Harold; son, Phil Simpson and wife Sylvia; and grandchildren Sebastian Kaiser, Adrian Kaiser, Olivia Simpson, as well as, many close friends. Family will receive friends 4:00-6:00pm Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with service to follow. Family and friends will meet at 11:15am Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway for an 11:30am committal service.
