Reverend Charles E. Hatmaker, age 80, of Powell, was received into the arms of God on September 3rd, 2023. He was a proud United States Army Veteran and a member of Union Baptist Church.
The Apostle Paul said that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Our Pap is now with his Lord and Savior and has been reunited with his long-awaited bride and his son. Pop-paw was a pastor, a teacher, a mentor and friend. Our love for him was immeasurable and he will be fiercely missed.
He encouraged those new and old to the Gospel and helped guide them on their spiritual journey. His unwavering love and belief in Christ resonated with many, not only through his sermons but also his life.
Next to Pap's love of Jesus and our Nanda, his greatest joy was his family. He could often be found in his recliner with a grandchild close by, or as he liked to call them his "Poly-wog Wart-hogs."
He loved to sing, play games and mess with you just for the fun of it. Both Pap and Nanda loved hard and if you were ever on the receiving end of that love, you felt it deeply. Anyone and everyone were always welcome and treated like family because to them, you were.
Pop-paw loved his Vols, westerns, fishing, bird watching, all animals, corn bread & milk, and extra thick strawberry milkshakes. He made the best buttermilk biscuits from his days as a cook in the Army and if you ever ate one you know just how fortunate you were.
Charles is preceded in death by his precious wife of 59 years Gail Hatmaker and his dear son Brian Hatmaker; his parents Claude & Francis Hatmaker; sister Wilma Hubbard; brothers David, Carl, Narvel and Roger Hatmaker. Survived by son & daughter in law Keith & Shannon Hatmaker, daughter in law Teresa Hatmaker; grandchildren Courtney (Scott) Hatmaker, Alex (Madelyn) Hatmaker, Justen (Emily) Hatmaker, Erynn (Jake) Harrell; great grandchildren Noah Hatmaker, Josie Love & Alder Charles Harrell; brothers Ernest & Hat Jack (David Cicero) Hatmaker, sister Imogene Domingo; special nieces, Debbie (David) Roe & Lisa Brantley and a host of many nieces & nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, September 8, 2023, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel, with a funeral service to follow. Reverend Gary Vandergriff and Reverend Michael Vandergriff officiating. Family and friends will meet by 10:45 AM Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Union Baptist Church for an 11:00 AM Interment service.
