Charles Gary Bowden

Gunnery Sergeant Charles Gary Bowden recipient of the purple heart has passed away on January 20, 2023, at home with his loved ones by his side. He was a proud Marine, who was wounded in the Vietnam War along with his brothers in combat. He was true to his faith in God and loyal to his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Charles Bowden, mother Ruby Pritchard and stepfather Leo Pritchard. He is survived by his wife Opal Bowden and sister Sandra (Henry) Parks; Three daughters; Shea, Jodie, Kasey, one son Charlie (Cam) Bowden, Grandchildren; Cameron, Madison, Olivia, and Bodie from Sumter, SC. Two stepdaughters Melanie and Stephanie Goddard, five grandchildren; Houston, Skylar, Ayden, Sheyla, and Mahala; and one great grandchild Myhla. The family will receive friends on 5:00-7:00pm Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel, with funeral service to follow, officiated by Henry Parks. The family will meet 8:15am Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at ETVC (John Sevier Hwy) for an 8:30am graveside service, with full military honors. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mynattfh.com
