Eugene joined his mother (Margret), father (Charles), oldest son (Eddie), brother (Bill) and his wife of 62 years Meta on October 23. He spent 96 years on earth and set a standard for many on how to live a meaningful and impactful life.
Gene valued family and along with Meta helped build a good life for sons Eddie, Gary, and Dan (Debbie). The boys learned a lot from Gene who shared a lifetime of knowledge about hunting, fishing, or sports. Papaw had a great influence on grandchildren Arlo, Cody, Alex, Courtney, James and Sarah. There are numerous great grandchildren that Gene loved.
Gene worked at the Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge and retired and spent his life involved with his church, helping others, and traveling. We are certain that on the day of his birth, fish and fowl alike trembled because they knew there was a person on the planet that would take great pleasure trying to match wits with those animals. Gene loved the outdoors and loved his time fly fishing at Clinch River and Abrams Creek and grouse hunting in the steepest and most dense mountains imaginable.
The family will receive friends 2pm-3pm Saturday October 26, 2024 at Mynatt Funeral Home- Powell Chapel followed by a 3pm funeral service. Reverend Keith Tillman officiating. Graveside service will be 4pm Saturday October 26, 2024 at Bells Campground Cemetery.
