CROSS, CHARLES DAYTON – age 76, of Knoxville, went to be with Jesus on June 20, 2017 at Park West Hospital. Charles was born Nov. 26, 1940 in Knoxville, Tennessee and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, who was awarded 7 medals and ribbons, including the Bronze Star. He was a member of the VFW Post 1733, American Legion Post 278 of Knoxville and a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church. Charles worked as a police officer for Knox County Police Department and retired as a Lt. Fireman for Martin Marietta Y-12. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 43 years Ina Lee, father, Ancel D. Cross mother, Ollie L. Cross brother, Bob Cross and sister, Judy Benziger. Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law Lisa Mae & James Smith, Granddaughter Lindsey M. Loy, and a host of nieces and nephews. Special friends include Randy & Velvet Rauton, Lonnie & Leda Gregg, and Brenda Worley of Blount County. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 AM Saturday at Bethel Cemetery in Townsend for the interment, Reverend Arthur Pedigo officiating. Pallbearers: James T. Smith, Randy Rauton, Heath Boggs, Chris Benziger, Bill Benziger, Shawn Cross and honorary pallbearer, Dusty Foust. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday at Mynatt Funeral Home, 2829 Rennoc Road in Fountain City 865-688-2331. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 on Saturday in Bethel Cemetery, 108 Bethel Church Road, Townsend, TN 37882 for the committal and military honors.
