Carson Elige Dalton, 83, of Corryton, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30th, with his wife and daughter by his side. Carson was a believer, who loved to live. He battled illness for many years, but did so with great optimism, grace and humor. He will be remembered by his many loved ones as a kind and witty man, who loved his neighbors and his family—especially his wife, Lorene, and chose to see and believe in the very best of others. He often quoted and lived by the following verse: A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24. Carson was a staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. He served in the Korean War as a member of the maintenance crew of three B-29 bombers and ultimately received the Korean Service Medical for his service. Carson was equally accomplished in his community. As a long-time member and leader in Clear Springs Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon, Sunday school instructor for young adults for nearly forty years and an assistant Sunday school superintendent for thirty years. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living deacon in the church. He was a member of Corryton Masonic Lodge #321 for over fifty years. He worked at Rohm and Haas for twenty-four years before retiring due to poor health. Carson spent his entire life on the twenty-three acre Dalton family farm in Corryton, Tennessee, where he raised his daughter, kept bees and cattle and played with his grandkids. He was an avid golfer, playing as often as he could. He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 57 years, Lorene Maples Dalton; daughter, Cathy Smith and fiancé Tim Lennon of Knoxville; grandchildren, Shaun Martin and wife Amanda of Tacoma, Washington, Jonathan Martin and wife Maegan of Nashville, Tennessee, and Chelsea Martin of Knoxville; sisters, Jo Ann Dalton and Faye Dalton of Corryton; nephews, nieces and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by mother and father, Elijah and Mary Dalton; siblings, Jack Dalton, Shields Dalton, Frank Dalton, Lois Dalton Oglesby, Sallie Dalton Lett, and Geneva Dalton Bell. The family would like to thank the medical professionals of Tennova Hospital for their many years of compassionate care to Carson and the Amedysis staff who helped bring understanding and peace to an otherwise very difficult time. The family will receive friends Monday, February 2nd, from 5:00-8:00 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Hall Chapel. The funeral service will follow, which will be officiated by Reverend Jerry Vittatoe and Dr. Damon Patterson. Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, February 3rd, at 1:15 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel to proceed to Greenwood Cemetery for graveside service at 2 pm. Pallbearers will include: Shaun Martin, Jonathan Martin, Michael Dalton, Richard Lett, Bobby Joe Blankenship, Chico Fernandez.
