Carolyn Laugherty Overton

Carolyn Laugherty Overton, age 88, formally from Knoxville, TN, went to be with Jesus on March 6, 2025. She had lived in Bristol, TN, with her son and his family for the last 11 years. She was a long-time member of Emerald Avenue UMC in Knoxville, TN, and also attended Central Christian Church in Bristol, TN. She was an avid Vols fan. Carolyn loved to sing and was known for her beautiful voice, face and smile; as well as her red lipstick. No one ever doubted what was on Carolyn’s mind. She loved her family and grandchildren fiercely and was very generous. She worked in nursing as an LPN and held various office jobs. Prior to her retirement, she was the Executive Secretary to the Treasurer for the State of South Carolina. Through most of her married life, she served proudly as a minister’s wife and was very active in the church. Carolyn truly loved Jesus and shared Him with most everybody she met.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Ray and Margaret Clark Laugherty; brother, Earl Wayne (Bud) Laugherty; sisters, Mary Jean Larison and Shirley Wilson and spouse, Kyle Vance Overton.

Survivors include her children, Mark A. Overton (Janette), Marty Overton Simcox (Mark), grandchildren, Robbie Overton (Kasey), David Overton (Jessica), M.J. Overton (Lesley), and Katelyn Overton; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law, Jim Wilson and Jim Larrison.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Central Christian Church of Bristol, TN, on March 12, 2025. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:20pm with the service to follow at 6:30pm. The service will be streamed live at https://www.cccbristol.com.

A graveside service will be held on March 14, 2025. Family and friends will meet at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville, TN at 12:45pm for a 1:00pm graveside service. A very special thank you to the wonderful staff in the Virginia’s Garden building at the Village of Allandale in Kingsport, TN, who loved and gave excellent care to Carolyn.
