CAROLYN ELIZABETH WILLIAMS McELHANEY, age 94, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away April 9, 2017 at West Hills Health and Rehab. Daughter of Deony and Letha Williams of Morristown, Tennessee. She attended Rose School and graduated Morristown High School Class of 1942. She enjoyed growing up in Morristown and told lots of stories, especially about being in MHS Band, parading down Main Street late one Friday after returning from winning an away game against a big rival school and at the New York World's Fair in 1939. She was the middle sister of the Williams girls, Georgia and Margaret Ann. It was a wonderful life in a small town where everyone cared about each other. Carolyn carried that quality throughout her life. Carolyn was talented with growing plants, making live and artificial flower arrangements, sewing, and cooking. Foremost, Carolyn was a friend, confidant, and mentor that Alzheimer's stole from us a day at a time, year by year. Carolyn put her family first, her Intercontinental Church of God family second, and her co-worker family third. She was very proud of her two children, three grandsons, and seven great grandchildren. She loved attending gatherings and events of the church, Feasts, and winter weekend singles dances. Through her years in addition to being a homemaker she had worked at her father's poultry store, Freels Drug store, J C Penney department store, a substitute teacher for Knox County, managed Fletcher's Green House, manager of Richey Kreme Restaurant, jewelry making, and clerk for TVA nuclear division. With her Alzheimer’s it made for some very interesting conversations when the nursing staff tried to asked her about her past life. Preceded in death by daughter-in-law Phyllis McElhaney and sister and brother-in-law Georgia and Estill Massey. Survived by son Sidney D. McElhaney, his son Brian with wife Laura, their children Alex, Katie, Spencer, and Jamie, and son Brent with his children Blake, Lilly, and Logan. Her daughter Samia Cardwell with husband Eddie, and their son Eric. Also survived by sister and brother-in-law Margaret Ann and Ronald H Smith, their son Kevin with wife Carolyn, and their son Shane. The family wants to thank the staff of West Hills Health and Rehab, especially Peggy Watson. Carolyn always praised them for the wonderful care they gave her. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 12th, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service on Thursday, April 13th, 2017 at Jarnagin Cemetery in Morristown, Tennessee.
