Carole Marie Morris, age 75, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2022. She was born on April 18, 1946, in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Carole began school there, and later moved with her family to Knoxville, where she graduated from Fulton High School. She was a graduate of Warren Wilson Junior College and went on to earn a B.S. degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Carole was a trail blazer for women in the business world and held a series of positions with IBM in the early days of the computer industry. She was recruited to work for the company right out of college and ultimately retired from there. Her leadership positions involved working with colleagues in England, France, and Germany, and allowed her to travel overseas to countries such as Brazil. She also lived and worked all over the U.S., including Atlanta, GA., Washington, DC, New Orleans, LA., and New York City.
Carole loved fashion, interior design, literature, music, and sports. She was an eager traveler and an accomplished pianist, organist, and vocalist. She loved watching UNC basketball and LSU football. Carole was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Some of the family’s favorite memories of Carole include singing Christmas carols around the piano at mom and dad’s house, lunching and dining together for any reason at all, enjoying an outing of shopping for beautiful clothes and home furnishings, receiving funny birthday cards and wonderful books from her for birthdays (she rarely missed sending a birthday card or text to her family members), laughing with her, and meeting up with her in whatever city she was living in at the time for a visit.
Carole is preceded in death by her father and mother, Richard Marion Morris and Bonnie Miller Morris, brothers C. John Morris, Sr., and Douglas L. Morris, sister Jamie Faye Thompson, brothers-in-law Merl Solt and Norman Pleasant, and nephew Lindle Morris. She is survived by sister, Violette Pleasant, brothers Olin F. Morris (Sandi) and P. Edward Morris (Judy), sister-in-law Barbara Morris, brother-in-law Clyde Thompson, nieces and nephews Bo Morris (Deb), Carla Morris (Mark), Alison Morris, Stacy Morris, Brad Morris (Debbie), Charles John (Chuck) Morris, Jr., Rick Morris (Elaine), Kevin Thompson (Michelle), Wendy Morris West (Joey), and Kelli Thompson Piper (Danny), her great nieces and nephews, and also special caregiver and friend Kasha Bankston.
