Carole Lynne Sheppard

August 6, 1941 — August 13, 2017

Carole Lynne Sheppard, age 76, of Knoxville, TN passed away Sunday, August 13th, 2017. She was a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, worked for 43 years as a registered nurse until her retirement in 2007, and was a member of Fountain City United Methodist Church. Music was a big part of her life. As a teenager and through her adult years, she loved playing the piano and organ for her church. She learned to play after only a few months of lessons. Back then, forms of entertainment were limited, so Carole played the piano when her extended family gathered on the weekend for sing-alongs, and other relatives would play other instruments, as well. Carole also played the baritone and tenor saxophone in her high school marching band. Another family past time which Carole also enjoyed was playing cards; pinochle in the early years, and “I’ll Buy That” with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and reading. Carole played softball and bowled in leagues in Palmyra and Reading, PA. She volunteered in the church kitchen in Stanton, VA and Knoxville. She loved animals and always rescued her pets from the local animal shelters. She will be missed by her whole family for the tremendous support she gave everyone through her warm hugs, giggles, long talks and her strong faith. She is preceded in death by parents Wallace and Edith Dale, brother Edward Lee “Ted” Dale, grandson Michael Ray Goodin, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Carole is survived by daughter Tracey Baum, and husband James, of Reading, PA, Terri Goodin, and husband Garold, of Corryton, TN, son Randall Sheppard, and wife Angela, of Umatilla, FL, step-son Keith Sheppard, and wife Ly Buy, of Richmond, VA, grandchildren Cody and Heather Baum, of Reading, PA, Lindsey and Garrett Goodin, of Corryton, TN; step-grandchildren, Christopher, Shelton, and Katie Bailey of Eustis, FL; step-great-grandchildren Brayden and Faith Bailey; brothers Charles Dale, and wife Karen, of Roanoke, VA, James Dale, and partner Richard Setnam, of Vero Beach, FL, Richard Dale, and wife Stacey Binkerd, of Groton, NY, Sally Polachek, and husband Michael, of Hawk Run, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and 1 great-grandnephew. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to: Young-Williams Animal Center or Fountain City UMC Music Ministry.
