Carl Russell Jenkins, Sr., age 92, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016. He was a Charter member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church. He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy and in the first wave on Utah Beach on D-Day during the Normandy landings. He was retired from Plastiline and a Mason with Powell Lodge. Preceded in death by parents, Fayette and Betty Jenkins; and 7 brothers and sisters. Survived by wife of 70 years, Kathryn Cole Jenkins; sons, Carl R. Jenkins, Jr. and wife Deborah, Mike Jenkins and wife Missy; Bill Jenkins and wife Kim; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Ben Atchley Veterans Home for their love and care. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday at Black Oak Heights Baptist Church with service to follow at 7:00 pm, Dr. J.C. Parrott, Dr. Todd Stinnett, and Rev. Randy Singleton officiating. Family and friends will meet 9:45 am Friday at Highland Memorial for 10:00 am interment.
