Bruce Hensley Drinnen, Jr., 95, passed away December 23, 2024, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where he had been living. He was born on July 30, 1929, to Bruce Hensley Drinnen, Sr. and Bertha Paulette Edington Drinnen. He went to work at 13 years of age at the Texaco station on the corner of Broadway and Highland Drive in Fountain City and, after returning from serving in the Navy during the Korean War, became a co-owner of the same station. He later ran the garage and was the fleet manager at Y-12 for 32 years. He married Evelyn Jean Spitzer Drinnen on February 25, 1950. He was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City.
Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, and by his sister Charlotte Drinnen Miller. He is survived by sisters Maxine Drinnen Chesser and Joyce Drinnen Underwood. He leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Bruce Alan Drinnen and Kay Hubbard Drinnen of Murfreesboro, who selflessly provided for his well-being for the last three years. He also leaves his daughter, Dale Jean Drinnen Powers and son-in-law Andy of Knoxville. Bruce leaves 5 grandchildren, Vicky Marie Drinnen Frances (Tim), Leslee Jean Drinnen Johnson (Matt), Bradley Alan Drinnen (Elisabeth), Ian Andrew Powers, and Olga Julie Powers, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Central Baptist Church of Fountain City or the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel. There will be a graveside service at 11 AM on Friday, December 27, 2024, in Greenwood Cemetery with long-time friend and Pastor Ron Mauer officiating.
