Wayne Austin, 41, of Knoxville, Tn passed away unexpectantly due to heart complications, at his home in Powell on Friday, April 26th 2019.
He was a 1996 graduate of Fulton High School where he was an accomplished student athlete. Wayne’s love of sports began as a young child at Inskip Ballpark and continued throughout his life. He served as Captain of the football and basketball teams at Fulton High School. In addition to being a standout baseball player, Wayne set many school records throughout his playing career. His passion for athletics and helping kids led him into coaching immediately after his playing days were finished; mentoring and coaching countless kids in the Fulton and Powell communities. Wayne spent many hours off the field mentoring and serving as a father figure to the kids he coached.
He was a fan of Tennessee athletics, the Dodgers, Cowboys, and Grizzlies and took many of his players and former players to games as often as he could.
When he wasn’t coaching, Wayne (also known as Fish), spent countless weekends playing competitive softball. He earned a reputation as a dominant pitcher across the state of Tennessee.
Always a quiet man, Wayne was humble about his athletic accomplishments, but he was happiest when he was on a ball field either competing or coaching. His love for the game was apparent through his constant smile to everyone who knew him.
Wayne was a dedicated employee and manager at 84 Lumber where he worked for over 20 years and will be deeply missed by his work family.
He is preceded in death by grandmothers Dot Wright and Bertha Austin.
He is survived by the love of his life, Courtney; son, Braydyn; daughter, Brynnley; parents, Hugh and Cheryl Austin; brothers, Casey, Huey; sister-in-law, Robin, and countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, teammates and former players coached.
