Betty Louise Dowden, age 85, of Halls passed away from this life peacefully after a long battle with kidney disease on Saturday, December 6, 2014. She was born November 15, 1929 in Harlan, Kentucky. She is retired from University of Tennessee Hospital, where she served as a nurse for 30 years and helped establish the University’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, William C. & Eunice Mae Ramey; her sister, Patsy Ina Berry; and her nephew, Jay Rogers (Joey) Daniels Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Fritz-Powers and husband, David Powers; son, James L. Dowden, Jr.; granddaughters, Misty Rachelle Tippens and husband Kevin, Jennifer Jean Courtney and husband Mike; grandson Charles Ingram Fritz, Jr; great-grandchildren, Austin Gordon, Emma Tippens, Marlee Tippens, Sydney Tippens, and Maggie Courtney; brother Frank R. Ramey and wife Ruby; sisters, Billie Bedwell and Joyce Wells; and several nieces and nephews who she dearly loved, with special thanks to Shannon, Cindy, Beverly, and Patty. The family would also like to express a special thanks to the loving, caring, and most generous staff at NHC Ft. Sanders, with special thanks to the CNAs and nurses for providing her with continued compassion and the dignity she deserved. The family would also like to express gratitude to their many friends and extended family for continued thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, “Backpack for Kids” program which provides needy children with nutritious, child-friendly food when other resources, such as school lunches and after school snacks are not available. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow at 8pm, Dr. James Robertson officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:15 am Thursday at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery for graveside services at 10:30 am.
