Betty J Ballard passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the age of 76. After years of battling health issues, she is at peace with the Lord. Betty knew that it was a greater gift to give rather than receive and showed great generosity to many. She held a special place in her heart for her furry companions that she loved as her own children. Throughout life, she raised and loved many dogs that each brought her much happiness and joy. She was an avid gardener and preferred to be outdoors planting flowers and trees to make her home a beautiful retreat from the world. Her land was her passion, and she always had a project in mind that involved getting her hands dirty. She loved her family trips to Hilton Head, with days on the beach and nights eating seafood. She loved the simple pleasure of reading a book and almost always had one nearby ready to add to her extensive book collection once finished. Her grandchildren were her world and she loved them deeply. She had a beautiful smile, and it will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Michael Ballard, who loved her unconditionally from the first moment they met; her daughter, Tiffany Waugh (Steve); son, Shawn Ballard (Brooke); granddaughters, Taylor Kennedy, Audrey Ballard, Annisten Ballard and Lottie Kennedy; bonus son, Patrick Kennedy (Sara); brother-in-law, Patrick Ballard; sister, Kimberly Parson (Bennett); brother, Johnie Dockery (Linda) and several special nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many life-long friends that she considered family.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Kelly Kennedy, whom she has missed every moment of every day since saying goodbye; her parents, Doug and Gladys Dockery; sister, Patricia Sharp; sister, Terry Templin; and brother, Larry Dockery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Mynatt Funeral Home-Powell Chapel from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Family and friends will meet at 11:15am on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for an 11:30am graveside service. Online condolences may be left at mynattfh.com.
