Betty Lou Bailey
May 17, 1928 — July 31, 2023
Knoxville
Betty Lou Carr Bailey of Knoxville, age 95 passed away peacefully on July 31, 2023. Betty was born and raised in the Vestal community. She attended Flenniken Elementary, Young High School before attending UTK. While at UT she worked in the ticket booth at the Tennessee Theatre where her soon to be husband spotted her. She married Ed Bailey in 1952 and together raised four sons.
Betty left Vestal and headed straight to Caracas, Venezuela, later setting up home for her family in five Major Cities. She was a fierce supporter and defender of her boys and husband's sports and rarely missed a game. She probably watched more games than any woman ever. She loved to listen to Bob and Bert call the Tennessee games. She was a principled, patriotic American who never missed a vote. She made sure you got your fruits and vegetables and was known for her vegetable soup. She loved to cook fresh food for family and friends.
Betty's heart and soul was dedicated to making people's lives positive. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She came up with the most clever April Fools jokes and her favorite target was her Minister. She made sure you knew about how God wants us to live. Her family got one or two scriptures a day in person or on the phone. She invited everybody she met to church.
After raising her boys and supporting her husband's14 year Major League Baseball career, she enjoyed buying and renting properties. She loved spending time and keeping up with her grandchildren. She found much gratification in visiting seniors and working with the Ladies at the West End Church of Christ where She was the longest serving Member.
Betty Bailey came from a modest beginning, married a star from Strawberry Plains, lived in the limelight and never lost her essence. She lived a long and full life and was a great example and asset to all who knew her. Her beautiful smile and kind touch will be missed forever.
She is preceded in death by parents LB and Mary Carr, brother LB and her husband Ed Bailey.
She is survived by son's Jeff (Rebecca), Joe, Jack, Jim (Virginia) grandchildren, Wes, Ben, Abby, Reagan, Sloane and Brooks, great grandchildren Roman and Calum. All Baileys!
Thank you to her wonderful caregivers Donna Pinkerton, Janie Rose, Robin Clifton, Kathleen Parsley and Robin Jones.
