Beatrice C. Owens

July 3, 1924 — February 28, 2022

Beatrice (Bea) C. Owens of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2022 at the age of 97. She is greatly missed by her husband of 75 years, Tom Owens, age 100. Her three children, Jim, Peggy, and Cindy, also mourn the loss of their wonderful mother. Her many dear friends, especially from church, book club, swimming exercise class, bridge club, and work will all deeply miss her sweet presence. She was a long-time executive secretary for Reed W. Brinton, New York Life Insurance Company, and a Technical Editor for Libra Programming (where she was a pioneer in job sharing). Bea volunteered as a docent at the Natural History Museum of Utah. She was a Deacon and active member of Cottonwood Presbyterian Church for 60 plus years and an inspirational Girl Scout Leader for many years. Bea loved gardening, especially roses and her compost pile, hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing in the Wasatch Mountains, reading (30 year book club member), crossword puzzles, word games, bridge, and swimming (with her enthusiastic friends at their special exercise class). Bea was preceded in death by parents, Maude and Harold Cory, and her sister, Jane Ryan. She is survived by her beloved husband of 75 years, Thomas (Tom) Owens; brother, Robert (Bob) Cory; son and daughter-in-law, James (Jim) and Wanda Owens; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Mark Littmann and Cindy and Joe Buchman; Grandchildren: Kellie Owens (Adam Barber), Beth McGinnis (James), Owen Littmann (Machiko), Kelsey Koenig (Jon), Hayley Sanderson (Grant), Kristian Buchman, and Anna Buchman. Great grandchildren: Maya Barber, Liam McGinnis, Adele McGinnis, Leah Littmann, Emma Bea Koenig, Madelyn Koenig; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a very special thank you to Sacred Ground Hospice House, 1120 Dry Gap Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918, and to her good friend, Joyce Green for taking her to swim class in her later years. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Natural History Museum of Utah, 301 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108 or Cottonwood Presbyterian Church, 1580 Vine Street, Murray, Utah 84121. Bea's enthusiastic and exemplary life will be celebrated this summer. Online condolences may be sent to www.mynattfh.com.
