Barbara Pinkston Sumter

Barbara Pinkston Sumter, born January 25, 1935, went to be with the Lord on November 22, 2017. She retired from KUB after many years of dedicated service. Barbara was also a long-time member of Salem Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and directed the children’s choir for many years. She enjoyed bowling, and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Pinkston, and Tom Sumter; and her parents, Rex & Pauline Hammer. She is survived by her sons, David Pinkston and wife Vicki, Steven Pinkston and wife Sherri, and Shawn Pinkston and wife Sharon; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda McNeil and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thanks to Maple Court Assisted Living, Amedisys Hospice and Dr. Amy Rosine for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Salem Baptist Church Children’s Ministry. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm, Monday, November 27, 2017 at Salem Baptist Church, with funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm, Rev. John Holland and Rev. Allen James officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am, Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Ft. Sumter Community Cemetery for interment at 11:00 am. Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel in charge of arrangements.
