Barbara Jean Smart Rhyne

Barbara Jean Smart Rhyne, age 79, of Powell, passed away at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center on Friday, January 19, 2018 after a short illness. She was a member of The Church at Sterchi Hills. Jean retired from First Tennessee Bank as a Loan Officer after 20 plus years of dedicated service. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Haskew & Lucille Smart; and brother, Johnny Smart. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Rhyne; daughter, Cindy (Gordon) Evans; son, John (Michele) Rhyne Jr.; grandchildren, Clint (Karen) Evans, Whitney (Duke) Truong, Abby Standifer, Regan Rhyne; great-grandson, Chase Evans; sisters, Carolyn Foster, Alice (Glenn) Hood Laws, Terry (Kenny) Widener; and several nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Angie Pena. A special thanks to brother-in-law, Glenn Laws. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean’s name to The Church at Sterchi Hills. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am, Monday, January 22, 2018 at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens for a graveside service at 11:00 am, with Rev. Scott Hood officiating.
