Barbara Jane Barnes “Barbie”, age 87 of Knoxville, passed away on August 4, 2023. She was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her flowerbeds and spending time with family and friends. She loved to surround herself with as many people as possible. Barbara was an excellent cook. She and her late husband split their time between Crossville, TN and Clermont, FL. They loved to travel and even drove their motorhome to North Pole, Alaska once. Barbara will be missed dearly for her love and compassion for others, as well as, her cheerful spirit that brightened everyone’s day.
Preceded in death by husband Arthur Carroll Barnes, grandson Chad Edward Riggs, parents, Theodore and Verlie Ella Mae Hurst, siblings George Henry Hurst, James Hurst, Lovetta Jones, Mary Sue Presley, Roscoe Hurst, and Anita Hurst.
Survived by daughters Donna (Mark) Reed and Debbie (Dr. Barton) Waters, grandchildren Christopher (Shawna)Riggs, grand-daughter-in-law Denise Jones Riggs, Tim (Alicia)Ridge, Jennifer (Mike) Tipton, Dana Reed, great-grandchildren Piper Riggs Waters, Skylar Riggs, Caleb and Emily Ridge, Austin (Amanda) Tipton, Ryan Tipton, Eli Riggs and Ella Riggs, sister-in-laws Juanita Acuff, Joyce Hurst, and Joyce Jones, siblings Audrey (Don) Cooper, Pauline Crowe McGee, Bertha Mayes, Johnny (Peggy) Hurst, Jessie (Genevieve) Hurst, Arlene (Rick) Walker, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to each and every person who took the time to come and visit or assist with Barbara’s care. Also, special thanks to Megan, with UT hospice. Family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Glenwood Baptist Church with service to follow, Rev. Scott Tidwell officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to assist with funeral expenses.
There will be a celebration of life at the church following the services. We ask that if you are coming and would like to join us, please bring a covered dish, drinks will be provided, and we will do this in the gymnasium at Glenwood.
