Annette Myers Merritt, age 94 of Knoxville, passed away December 29, 2024. She was a member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church for nearly 50 years, where she was a Sunday School teacher. Annette graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Masters in Education. She was a teacher for over 54 years before retiring from Fountain City Elementary. In 1977, she was recognized for her heroic actions in getting many children to safety when a tornado destroyed the portable classrooms at Halls Elementary where she was teaching. She will be remembered as the best mom, nana, and caretaker, who would sacrifice anything for herself in order to be certain that those around her had what they needed. Preceded in death by husband of 63 years Max Merritt, parents Willie and Cecil Myers, brothers W.M. “Bill” Myers, Sr., Oren, J.B., and Jackie Ray Myers, sisters Patricia Myers Davis, Inez Myers Treadwell, Helen Myers Whited, and Bonnie Myers Noe. Survived by daughter Amy O’Dell (Bobby), son Bryan Merritt (Allison), grandchildren Jordan O’Dell, Adrienne O’Dell, and Benjamin Merritt, sister Juanita Kneier, and brother Douglas Myers (Linda), and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Friends may come by at their convenience from 10:00am-5:00pm Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. Family and friends will meet at 10:45am Friday, January 3, 2025, at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00am graveside service.
