Amanda Francis Stamps Pate, born in Nashville, TN, June 15, 1925. She joined Smithwood Baptist Church and was baptized at the age of 15. She is a member of Church Street United Methodist Church , and a active member of the Order of the Eastern Stars- AREME Chapter No. 466, National Education Association, and Tennessee Education Association. Amanda attended schools in Nashville, Tn, Putnam County, and Knox County. A graduate of Central High School in Fountain City, she worked her senior year at Fulton Stephen Company. During the Second World War (1946) she was given a scholarship to the University of Tennessee. Amanda also worked at Western Union after completing high school. While working at Western Union, she took a Junior Radio Operators Test at McGhee Tyson Airport, and was given a job with American Airlines. Later, Amanda passed the Civil Service and went to work for KUB. While working at KUB, Amanda married Edward Lewis Pate in 1950. They were married for 40 years, and had two sons. Amanda was employed with the Knoxville City Schools and Knox County Schools as school secretary for over 40 years, both Brown Low Elementary and Whittle Springs Middle School. Preceded in death by parents, William Luther Stamps; mother, Nellie Dietz Stamps; step-mother, Edna Harman Stamps; brother, William diets Stamps and wives Barbara and Nina Stamps; sister, Polly Stamps and husbands David Rosser, Charlie Bush, and Bill Mason. Survived by sons, John Patrick Pate and Charles Michael Pate and wife Candace Glass Pate; grandchildren include Michael Sandford Pate and Andrea Eve Pate; beloved pets, Baxter-Burns, Gracie-Lou, and special loved akita, Jones for 17 years. Friends and family will gather on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 2:45pm for a 3:00pm graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. Jan Buxton-Wade officiating.
