Amalie Hopkins Mowery

Amalie Hopkins Mowery, age 89, of Knoxville, devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother and great grandmother, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents James William (J.W.) & Velma Viola Hopkins of Pampa, TX, siblings JC (Pat) Hopkins, Billie (Gene) Jeffers, Dick (Nancy) Hopkins, Jerry Hopkins. She is survived by her husband of 71+ years, Gilbert Mowery, Jr., her children James (Sonya) Mowery, Brenda Mowery (Ken) Witt, Michael (Susan) Mowery, Keith (Paula) Mowery, Joel (Lara) Mowery, her 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Witt, Branden (Stephanie) Witt, Brittany Witt, Drew Mowery, Will (Katie) Mowery, Chris (Mary) Haynes, Jarod (Kate) Mowery, Shelly Mowery, Andy Mowery, Ben Mowery, Jake Mowery and 2 great grandchildren, Henry Witt and James David Mowery, along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and their loving dog, Dolly. Amalie was a work-at-home mom and held various other jobs through the years primarily at Ray’s Place in the TVA East Tower in Knoxville, and ultimately, she retired from Walmart. Amalie was a longtime member of Sharon Baptist Church serving in many capacities throughout the years. Her motto in life was, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 12:00pm—2:00pm at Sharon Baptist Church, 7916 Pedigo Road, Knoxville, TN. A brief funeral service will be held after visitation with burial to follow with Dr. Keith Mowery officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Amalie’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or to the Wounded Warriors Project.
