Alvin Glenn Frye

Alvin Glenn Frye, age 93, of Fountain City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran and served in World War II and the Korean War as a Corpsman. He was an active member of the Fountain City Lions Club, honorary member of the North Knoxville Rotary Club, and owner and operator of Fountain City Exxon. Alvin was a member of First Baptist Church of Fountain City, a member of Kerbela Temple, was a 32nd degree Mason and an amateur radio operator (KD 4LQ.) He was a loving husband and father, a good friend to everyone, and was considered a “Community Caretaker”. He loved his community, customers, and helping other people, which gained him an award naming him “Fountain City Man of the Year.” He is preceded in death by parents A.R. and Ruby Frye, and son-in-law Darrell Hinchey. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 69 years Mildred Brown Frye, children Tommy Frye, Sr., Lisa Frye Hinchey, and Fred Caughron, grandchildren Tommy Frye, Jr., Ben Frye, Sara Stevens, and husband Jimmy, and Andrew Hinchey, and wife Shannon, great-grandchildren Trevor Wayne Hinchey and Tyler James Stevens, siblings Eleanor Rogers, of Concord, NC, Sarah Valentine, of Bristol, TN, and John Frye, and wife Sandy, of North Port, FL, several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, and his beloved cat Donnie. We would like to express a sincere and gracious thank you to Jim and Freda Yearwood, Brenda Harrell, Chris Stafford, and family, and Joe and Sarah Hawkins. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 26th, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel, with funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m., Pastor Charles Lawson officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fountain City Lions Club, 5345 N Broadway St, Knoxville, TN 37928. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. for an 11:00 a.m. interment service at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Alcoa, TN on Thursday, July 27th, 2017.
