Alonzo Montrell "Big Zo" Butler passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024 in Knoxville, Tennessee in a local hospital with his daughter by his side. He was born on October 30, 1979, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He attended Chattanooga City High School and played on the football team. He relocated at an early age of 17 years old to pursue his boxing dream. Alonzo was managed and trained by Ace Miller and John Foust. He became a professional boxer in 2006. After a string of undefeated boxing bout, he was the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame's 2006 Professional Athlete of the Year. One of Alonzo's greatest treasures was spending quality time with his children. He was a great father, son, brother, uncle and friend to all he encountered with. Alonzo was a man with a pure heart of gold always smiling and talking. To know him is to love him. He loved his Tennessee Volunteer football. He was known for his kind heart, adventurous spirit, and willingness to help anyone.
Alonzo was preceded in death by his grandmother, Minnie Bell Worsham; grandfather, Jimmy Bush; grandfather, Edgar Butler; uncle, Darrell Reynolds; aunt, Stephanie Bush; trainer, Ace Miller; and other relatives. He leaves to cherish his memory is his sons, Ali, Jiden and Zayn Butler, of Knoxville, TN; daughters, Jazlyn and Zorijah Butler of Knoxville, TN; his father, Alonzo Butler; mother, Sharon Madding; sister, LaTasha Butler, brother, Joshua (Crystal) Butler; grandmother, Vera Brown of Chattanooga, TN; Long Life Partner, Sthefanie Melgar of Knoxville, TN; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
The family will hold the Celebration of Life Services on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at noon at Mynatt Funeral Home Chapel, 2000 Powell Drive Powell, Tennessee 37849.
