Ally Grunst, age 89, passed away Saturday, January 18 at Tennova Residential Hospice in Knoxville. She had lived joyfully with family in Corryton TN for several years and was preceded in death by her husband Warren and sister Stamatina. Ally was born in Westbury NY in 1925 to immigrants Christ Demetrius and Marie Tenud Spiliotes of Molai, Greece and Salgesch, Switzerland, respectively. She grew up in Brooklyn NY, and attended college in Potsdam NY where her future husband stole her away from a fraternity friend on the dance floor. They were married in 1950 and moved to Oak Ridge where they raised their family. Through the years she worked as a teacher and secretary, was active in the Atomic City Aquatic Club, sewed and crocheted endlessly, loved cooking her favorite Greek dishes and took loving care of her family. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Janet and David Cantrell of Corryton, son John and granddaughter Naomi of Martinez CA, grandson Cade of West Sacramento CA, step-grandchildren Alex Cantrell and wife Lisa, Mechelle Cantrell Stooksbury, their children Preston, Samantha, Avery, Madison, Lena and Autumn, and a host of related Cantrell family members. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten. The family will receive friends at Mynatt Funeral Home in Halls from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, January 22nd. She will be interred next to Warren in a private gathering at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
