Aileen “Peaches” Ellis Yarberry, age 89, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2017 at UT Medical Center. She was born and lived her entire life in Knoxville, Tennessee. Raised in the Millertown community, Aileen graduated from Central High School in 1945. She later attended Draughon’s Business College, where she met her future husband, Bill. They married in December 1947. While raising a family of one son and two daughters, she found time to sing in St. Pauls’ United Methodist Church choir. Aileen was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for 63 years. Always generous and kind, she donated to numerous charities and provided wise counsel and loving care to her family. She loved travel, especially her trip with Bill to Hawaii. Other hobbies included crochet, playing the piano and occasional cards. In her early 40s Aileen returned to school and became a nurse. She worked as a highly regarded cardiac nurse (“Momma Yarb” to her co-workers) at Fort Sanders Hospital for the rest of her career. There she was respected for her skill and compassion for patients. She is preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Yarberry, parents William Ellis and Lela Heim, and brother Wendell “Buddy” Ellis. She is survived by children William (Carol) Yarberry, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Linda (David) Gosslin, Cynthia Yarberry Darden of Knoxville, grandchildren William (Rene) Yarberry, III, of Houston, Texas, Jonathan (Caitlin) Darden, of Knoxville, Elizabeth Yarberry of Murrieta, California, Lori Hurley (Tony) Liakonis of Knoxville, great-grandchildren Nicholas, Theo and Eleni Liakonis and Aubree Darden of Knoxville. Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Friends of Music, St. Paul United Methodist Church, 4014 Garden Dr., Knoxville, TN 37918. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 7th, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel, with funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Sarah Varnell will be officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. for an 11:00 a.m. interment at Greenwood Cemetery on Thursday, June 8th, 2017.
