Agnes (Judy) Lillian McCoy, 95, resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, died peacefully on January 12th, 2021. She went to join the Lord and family and friends in heaven's realm. Agnes was born on March 20th, 1925 in the Appalachian region of Virginia. There, while with her father, she shot a turkey when she was seven years old. She got a chance to sit on an airplane wing as a child and developed a lifelong love of airplanes and helicopters. Her life was full of adventure as she travelled and lived all over the world. While living at a weather station in Alaska she survived two plane crashes. She hiked alone for miles through the Smokey Mountains to get to North Carolina, "carrying no chocolate", she said, "because bears could smell it from miles away". Although Agnes had no children of her own, she raised several disabled foster children with the help of neighbors. She also loved animals and had many pets with quite amusing names. In her 80s and early 90s Agnes scooted around Knoxville in her electric wheelchair (her “Cadillac”) and buses, running her own errands and those of home bound friends. Following a wheelchair accident in a parking lot in 2017, she was no longer able to travel around town this way. Agnes regained good health after this and received excellent care from many caregivers. She spent hours reading books, often westerns. Agnes was kind, friendly, adventuresome, very witty, artistic and quite resourceful. She could find a use for almost anything. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Agnes is survived by Nancy, whom Agnes called “the daughter she never had”, good friends Pat and Karen, and nieces and nephews. Online condolences can be made at www.mynattfh.com
